Here’s what you can expect when you connect with us for a gender affirming care process:

Initial Assessment

Your therapist will conduct an initial assessment to understand your gender identity, experiences, and goals for gender-affirming care. This may involve discussing your gender history, experiences of gender dysphoria, and previous experiences with healthcare providers.
Your therapist will talk with you to make sure you understand the various gender-affirming treatments or procedures that are available to you- such as hormone therapy, gender-affirming surgeries, or other medical interventions. They will review the risks, benefits, and potential outcomes of each of these treatment option.
The therapist will ensure that the you have a very clear understanding of your treatment options and that you have given informed consent to pursue gender-affirming care. They will discuss any potential risks or side effects associated with the treatments and address any questions or concerns the you may have.
Depending on the specific requirements of the healthcare provider or insurance company, your therapist will review the documentation needed to support your access to gender-affirming care. This may include a letter of support from a mental health professional affirming your gender identity and need for gender-affirming treatment, or may be a letter and a full diagnostic assessment depending on your insurance’s expectations.
